Both of my grandmothers were avid gardeners. Every spring, as soon as the snow was gone they would start turning over the soil to get it ready for planting. A trip to the garden center was planned for the first really nice day. On weekends, each of them would let me “help” as they put in green plants, flowering plants and even tomatoes. By helping, they mostly let me hold the hose as they watered the newly-planted items. But by being out with them in the warm spring air, they each did two things. They gave me a lot of great memories along with a love of gardening that has stayed with me through the years.I didn’t know then that the plant industry was a multi-billion-dollar business or that so many tens of millions of people like to putter around in their gardens. But people have all kinds of gardens. Some, like my grandmother’s, are huge filling an entire yard. Others are much smaller, filling a balcony of a condo or apartment. But buy plants people do, for their homes and their offices, The last time I checked, there were nearly a million garden clubs in the United States!Meeting this demand is big business. Farmers, greenhouses, garden centers, grocery stores and online retailers all sell plants. Attracting the attention of customers is increasingly difficult because people have so many options.Enter the custom lapel plant pin!
Some friends who are in the business of growing and selling plants told me that traditional advertising isn’t as effective as it once was because so many purchases are impulse buys. So, commercial growers and greenhouses, landscapers and retailers alike are looking for effective ways of reaching their customers. At first blush, it wouldn’t seem as is a custom plant pin might be a tool to remind wholesale and retail buyers to pick up one or several dozen plants. But because an enamel plant pin costs as little as 60-cents each depending on the size, style and quantity ordered, they are a clever way of letting customers know that a plant is a welcome addition to a house, an office or cubicle. Here at PinProsPlus, we have made all kinds of plant pins from specific types such as schefflera and cactus to watering cans and planter boxes.
